Course Description
We are pleased to present the 11th Annual Conference of the Association of Physician Assistants in Oncology (APAO).  The goal of the conference is to present comprehensive clinical and surgical approaches in oncology to improve patient outcomes.

Target Audience
This conference is designed for physician assistants (PAs), nurse practitioners, physicians and nurses who care for patients with cancer in a clinical, surgical or research setting.
 

Conference Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, attendees will be able to:
  • Summarize genomic approaches for ovarian cancer
  • Identify personalized therapies for patients with cancer
  • List examples of supportive care for a terminal cancer patient
  • Identify 21st century technologies that are available to cancer patients
  • List treatment options for patients with lymphoma
  • Differentiate brain tumors and possible treatment regimens
  • Cite the epidemiology of melanoma
  • Recognize lesions suspicious for melanoma and describe the new melanoma staging system
  • Discuss an overview of the concept and philosophy of End of Life Care
  • Discuss pain and symptom management in End of Life Care
  • Discuss the rationale and clinical course of reduced-intensity conditioning hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
  • Identify patients that are best suited for breast cancer aromatase inhibitor therapy
  • List treatment options for soft tissue sarcomas and bone tumors
  • Evaluate a true oncologic emergency and list an appropriate therapy
  • Recite common signs of esophageal cancer
  • Outline new technologies for detecting lung cancer
  • Describe diagnosis & treatment of pediatric leukemia & lymphoma
  • Cite adverse effects of chemotherapy
  • List infectious diseases common to patients with cancer
  • Describe evaluation and treatment of metastatic bone disease

Accreditation
Physicians/Physician Assistants:
CME credit is pending.  Conference organizers plan to request 18.0 hours of AAPA Category I CME credit from the Physician Assistant Review Panel.
Optional workshops may provide additional credit.  The total number of approved credits is yet to be determined.

Nurses:
Nursing credit is pending. Conference organizers plan to request 21.5 CEUs.  Optional workshops may provide additional credit. The total number of approved credits is yet to be determined.
Each attendee should claim only those hours that he/she actually attends an educational activity.

Conference Cancellation Policy
An administrative fee of $50 will be assessed for cancellations received in writing by mail or fax prior to September 5, 2008.  No refunds will be granted after that date however, you may transfer your registration to a colleague at any time with a written request and pre-approval at no additional cost.
